Renting at Blue Crab Key
A warm welcome to our part-time, temporary residents! We hope you find our little piece of paradise exactly what you were looking for when you chose to spend time on Pine Island. Blue Crab Key is a friendly community. Don’t be surprised if people wave and say hello as if they have known you for a long time. That’s just the way we like it here. There’s plenty of ways to meet your neighbors, mostly through the activities at Blue Crab. Boating, fishing, swimming, pickleball, tennis are fun in and of themselves but they also put you in contact with neighbors who like the same things. You can get the inside story on the best places to fish, the favorite restaurants, the best places to rent a kayak, and where to shop just by meeting the people at Blue Crab. Here’s some community information so you can feel right at home: Swimming Pools Our pool and spas have their own special rules and regulations. Please see Pool rules to be informed about safe use of our pool areas. Specifically please be aware that The pool AND the spa must both be uncovered when residents are present even if they are not being used and the only activity taking place is sunbathing, failure to do this may result in Lee County Health Department closing the pools for a period of time. Sewer system Blue Crab has its own waste water treatment plant. It’s just like having a septic system which means that you are asked to only flush toilet tissue down the toilets. Our system cannot handle so called “flushable” wipes, diapers, make-up remover pads and of course, no sanitary products should be flushed. Your unit may have a garbage disposal. If it does, please DO NOT USE IT! Do not put any food or grease down the sinks or toilets. Once again our system just cannot handle it. Repairs to our pumps are expensive and to keep our system working while your are here is a primary goal. Garbage pickup The garbage bins are located near the west pool and clubhouse. Pick up is on Fridays but during our busy season you can expect an extra pick up on Mondays too. We have single stream recycling bins. Just be sure to crush your cans and milk cartons and to break down your boxes so there is room for everyone’s recycled material. The designated area for ad hoc trash items should only be for those items that cannot fit in the dumpster or recycle bins. If you think the items can be used by someone, please donate to Beacon of Hope or the Pine Island community church thrift store - both are in the area behind Sun Trust bank. If too many items are left in this area, again, the rodents take up residence. Tennis and Pickleball Tennis courts and pickleball courts are available on a first come first serve basis. Anyone is welcome to play regardless of skill level. Someone will usually have a spare paddle if you want to try playing. Community Parties These usually happen at the clubhouse on Friday nights. Individuals or groups volunteer to host the Friday night get-togethers. Everything is posted on the community bulletin boards located near the tennis courts. Rules and Regulations These apply to both owners and renters alike. Your owner should have provided you with a two page summary of our rules, but they can also be read or downloaded in pdf format HERE. Please look them over. Common courtesy is the goal. Thanks for coming to Blue Crab Key. We hope you have a wonderful time!
