An active HOA for home owners
With over 100 homes at Blue Crab Key, the Homeowners Association is an important catalyst for getting the things done that need to be done. From dealing with the authorities to making sure the trash is emptied and a great deal more. Although the association employs a management company to deal with the day to day issues, essentially the Blue Crab Key Homeowners Association is run on a voluntary basis by the owners for the owners.
There is no paid on-site manager. Volunteers, including the board, committee members and individual homeowners fill in for immediate needs when they are required. You could think of it as a circle with all the owners standing around the edge, with various owners stepping into the center of the circle to assume different responsibilities for varying lengths of time. This makes for a great sense of community at Blue Crab Key and there is also a long past history of volunteering by owners who have taken on all sorts of projects from cleaning the clubhouse and pool furniture, landscaping projects, painting, mulching, palm fertilizing and dock repair to help keep running costs and monthly fees down. For instance, after Hurricane Charlie, owners did a large part of the clean up themselves saving thousands of dollars in the process. As well as dealing with practical issues the HOA also gets involved with the social and community side of life and there is an active social programme during the winter months for both owners and renters to participate in. |
